DCAD Lead Feed combines the use of cereal grains and protein meals with mineral products that are high in sulphur and chloride to balance out the sodium and potassium of on-farm resources such as pasture, silage and hay to alter hormonal signals within the cow to allow the mobilisation of calcium from the bones of the animal to prevent milk fever around calving time.

X-Zelit is a relatively new product to the market that works on mobilising calcium from the bone of the cow by absorbing a significant amount of calcium fed in her diet. X-Zelit does not require the balancing of minerals as stringently as the DCAD way of lead feeding and can be more effective when higher quantities of pasture is fed in the transition diet as the large amount of potassium in pasture can be difficult to offset with a DCAD lead feed.
